Entry into the fiercely-contested Professional Cycling Photographer category is permitted to anyone who earns a living from his or her cycling photography.

Rhode Van Elsen @rhode.photo: “Paris-Roubaix 2018 – a World Champ on a mission… Peter Sagan on his road to victory.”

Jean-Pierre Ronco @@imagewriterphotography: “Beautiful landscape of the Tour de France 2018. Here the leader groups, lead by the yellow jersey Greg Van Avermaet, going down hill in the valley between Annecy and Le-Grand-Bornand in the Alps. Greg Van Avermaet succeeded to save his yellow jersey for one more day.”

Chris Auld @@cauldphoto: “”This is what winning feels like, John Degenkolb takes victory, Stage 9 of Tour de France 2018.”

Kenji Muto Quiroz @muto_photo: “Photo taken at King Of Track 13, Goyang City, South Korea 2018. Paolo Castelli, from Cinelli Team, chasing the leaders at the Final Elite race.”

Kenza Barton Schlee @@kbschlee: “”Urban Adventure” This shot was taken on Leake Street in London with gravel rider Daniel Hughes. Forget KOMs and yellow jerseys, adventure is at the heart of cycling. We might not all live in the foothills of the alps but Daniel shows you can adventure anywhere.”
For non-professional photographers using high-end cameras, we have the Enthusiast category. It’s a loose description including entries taken on high-end cameras including Interchangeable Lens Cameras (ILC), mirrorless, film, compact, DSLR and other cameras.

Adam Phelan @adamphelan: “The Man Behind The Camera. Richie Porte was man of the hour before the 2018 National Road Championships. I was down there as spectator for the first time in 7 years after racing every edition since 2011. It was set to be big year for Richie, with a good tilt towards the TdF. Luck hasn’t been on his side…yet.”

Chris Wallis @wallisphotos: “Snapping the Snappers – everyone’s part of the crowd
As the Tour de France peloton winds its way through the french country side some times it only the photographers watching.”

Galen Stilgebauer @galen1973: “During the Alpe d Huez stage of this years tour, my wife and cousin and I rode from the base of the Alpe to the top of the Col de la Croix de Fer and back only to then climb the iconic Alpe. Along for the ride was my camera gear which added over 15 pounds to the experience. There were many times I second guessed my decision to bring it along. We were positioned about 5K from the top. As the leaders and chasers came through, I was able to catch Egan Bernal staring down the barrel of my lens.”

Rhys Edwards @_rhysaroo: “Mavic neutral service cars just look so cool, particularly up close like this. I was on sector 11 of stage 9 at the 2018 Tour de France with my dad. I was really lucky to capture this as they pass so quickly.”
The SmartPhone / Action Cam category refers to still photos taken on devices such as iPhones, Android, Windows Mobile, etc, as well as still photos from devices such as GoPro, Shimano Sports Cam, Garmin VIRB, and drones.

Marc O’Leary @ olearymarc40: “While we may go in to an event focused reaching the finish line first, not all is lost if that doesn’t happen. In fact, pushing through unexpected obstacles and persevering because of the help of a friend makes eventually reaching that finish line even sweeter in the end. This is that friend for me, and I captured this photo of him after he sacrificed his own race result to help me fix a mechanical and reach the finish of the Gravel Grovel.”

Jason Janetzky @allez_allez_allez: “It’s hard to not sing a version of ‘under the sea’ while cycling through this aquatic tunnel. Perth, Western Australia.”

Mark Geary @ogaram: “I captured Catalina Soto at DISC in Melbourne, during one of her races. I used my GoPro. The lines show a lot of movement and give the impression of speed.”
It’s been another week of inspiring stories for the Proud Cycling Moments, where the story is as important as the image. Thank you to all our photographers who have entered this category. It’s a joy to see the images.

Lukáš Ronald Lukács @lucassaganronald: “I’m suffering the GAD (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) for more than 2 years. I’m always so nervous and I’m losing energy so faster than before. Because of this, I had to stop studying and I’m at home now. But for some seconds I don’t feel this. When I got at the top of my dream mountain after more than hour and it took 2 times longer than before, I just lift my bicycle with the last remaining energy and I felt the freedom again. So this is my proud cycling moment, when I defetead myself.”

Craig Huffman @craigsclicks: “”I Never Gave Up…” – Just 166 days after a horrific cycling accident: 25 broken bones, serious internal injuries, 10 days in a Trauma Center and the long road of rehabilitation, an emotional Annette Williams (USA) embraces her husband Kenny following her Gold Medal performance during the UCI Masters Track Cycling World Championships, Women 55+ Scratch Race Final at the Velo Sports Center in Carson, California, USA on October 9, 2018.”
