The Summer of Cycling for 2015 has begun.
Today saw the start of the season, at the Michelton Bay Cycling Classic. Today’s fast hotdog crit was held in sweltering conditions – a mere 36 degrees was scorching the riders.
In the Men’s race, Orica GreenEdge looked set to be to strong from the beginning, with Caleb Ewan making some early attacks for the team. Michael Hepburn spent many laps off the front for the team, and all the hard work paid off, as Caleb made his move. Greg Henderson, almost twice Caleb’s age, went with him.
The pair of Ewan & Henderson raced the final 20 minutes or so ahead of the peleton. At the bell, the peleton had 4 laps to go, whilst the leaders would run 3 laps clear to contest the stage win, and the chance to wear the Michelton Bay Cycling Classic leaders jersey.
Tomorrow is another day, and anything can happen, especially since it’s set to reach 42 degrees.
